USS Midway Museum

Finding interesting and unique destinations to visit when RVing is part of the fun and in this country, the choices are endless. But if you’re planning on a trip to the West Coast and find yourself in and around the San Diego area, definitely set your GPS for the USS Midway Museum.

Jeff Johnston did just that a couple of months ago and he’s still talking about it. Besides exploring this giant aircraft carrier itself, there are 60 various exhibits along with a collection of 29 different aircraft on board.

There is a self-guided audio tour, but Jeff had a personal tour with one of the retired naval officers assigned as a guide.

Keep in mind this is a huge ship with lots to see and do. So plan on at least a half day if not more.

Along with all the exhibits you can enjoy lunch or a snack at the Fantail Café and patio. In the gift shop you’ll find books, CDs, DVDs and a wide arrange of souvenir clothing.

The parking lot adjacent to the museum is for autos only but there are plenty of large parking areas close by that will fit an RV and you can jump on one of the trolleys for a quick shuttled to the Midway.

Check out Jeff’s visit and see if this destination should be on your agenda.
